Alright, finally my first Puck Possessed using Biathlon data. If you are in any way familiar with Biathlon data from the IBU Datacenter<\/a> you know the pain you have to go through from seeing the data in their great tool to getting it into a data visualization tool like Tableau.
\nSo far I have been able to get data for all Women’s Sprint events for seasons 2017-18, 2018-19 and the current season. Although I’m happy that the IBU puts this data out there, it’s unfortunate they don’t do so in a way that would be more user friendly to use the data (the way they have it set up now is great for viewing the data if you don’t care to get into the weeds to much). A simple “download to excel” button would save so much time.

\nAnyway, things are the way they are. This first dashboard offers an individual look at one particular race per athlete. In the embedded version below (actual Tableau Public page is here<\/a>) I’m highlighting fellow Canadian Emma Lunder, who despite her less than perfect performance in the sprint, had a great world championship!

\nMore specifically about the data: I use the Competition Analysis Report to gather all data into Google Sheets, where I combine all races per season. Then I add fields like ###_Time_in_seconds, ###_Ranks etc. before getting it into Tableau Public.

\nAlthough the result is not so much analytical and more informative (inforgraphical?) in nature, I like it as a first take on this data.
