Wolfhead and re-use<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The beauty (and admittedly, potential risk) of digital design is that elements can be re-used. The wolf head below is almost the same as the head of the howling wolf, which is almost the same as the wolf head in the Orca. The risk is obviously over-use and becoming lazy. But since I’m still practising and learning, I just wanted to see what it would look like to “zoom in” on the wolf head and print it square. Pretty happy with the result. Own design, September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another traditional animal from the North-West Coast: the Coho Salmon. Own design, September 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n This hummingbird was in an old colouring book I found, it is designed by Norman Tait and the book (A Northwest coast indian colouring book, Volume 1, by G.A. Mintz) was published to teach Formline art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A wolf in a howling position against the rising moon. Own design, September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A more traditional animal this time, own design, September 2021. As they are also called the wolves of the sea, I embedded a wolf head from a wolf design (see above).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trying something more abstract this time, with a “zoomed-in” view of an eagle’s head, morphing from the eye into a beak, with a single feather and two claws. Own creation, September 2021 <\/p>\n\n\n\n Own creation of a grizzly bear, September 2021. Not sure if I consider this finished, but every time I add something to the empty space it feels like it doesn’t belong there, so leaving it as is for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Continuing the Mixed Culture Series of animals non-existent in the traditional Northwest Coast art, I created the New Zealand National animal, the Kiwi. Own design, August 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Going a bit more traditional, with an animal that is common on the (North)West coast of North America, the hummingbird. Still figuring out what objects to use and how to use them for anatomical parts of the animal. Own design, August 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another own design of a non-North American species, the Springbok. As the national emblem for the Rugby team of South Africa, the springbok represents mixing cultures in South Africa, and in this piece is mixed with North West Coast artistic cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Own design created in July 2021 using Gravit Designer. It mixes two indigenous art styles; the Formline art style of the Pacific Northwest Coast First Nations of North America, and the colours, dotting style and animal of Australian Aboriginals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Own design of Owl using Gravit Designer, June 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n Created on bamboo breadbox, based on existing design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Painted on artistic paddles<\/p>\n\n\n\n Children’s bedroom door painting based on existing book cover for Raven Steals the Light story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Created a decorative paddle in Lee Valley Tools Course and then painted it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Painting of existing design on a necklace hanger<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moon Another benefit of digital design helped me save time in the following graphic I did of the moon.
